Meet Joanna
Joanna Drummond received a music degree with distinction from the University of Calgary in 2005. She was accepted into the B. Mus. program as a piano major. During her time at university, her focus shifted towards singing, and developing her understanding of the operatic voice. She completed the practical examination for her ARCT in voice with honours in 2008.
After university she became passionate about folk music and she learned the guitar. She has now released two albums as a songwriter and will soon be releasing a third. As a songwriter, she was nominated for a 2026 YYC Music Award for “Best Folk Recording of the Year.”
Both songwriting and teaching are passion projects for Joanna. She has a particular aptitude for working with young musicians at the start of their journey. She brings a steady, encouraging kindness, and a deep well of patience to the task of helping children grow into themselves as learners and as artists. She teaches piano, singing and beginner guitar in the SW neighbourhood of Woodbine in Calgary.
